Barista & Front of House Assistant

This placement provides the participant with an opportunity to learn about and gain practical experience in a busy café environment while supporting the front of house and barista team under supervision. The participant will gain exposure to customer service, including welcoming customers, taking orders and assisting with transactions. They will develop an understanding of basic barista skills, beverage preparation and food service. The placement will provide experience in maintaining clean and welcoming customer and service areas, restocking supplies, and supporting day-to-day café operations. Participants will also learn about food hygiene, health and safety requirements, teamwork, communication skills, and the importance of delivering a positive customer experience. Opportunities will be provided to observe and assist with opening and closing procedures, basic food preparation, and kitchen support activities, helping to build confidence and transferable workplace skills in a hospitality setting. Informal Training · On-the-job coaching in customer service and front of house operations. · Shadowing experienced baristas to learn coffee preparation, milk steaming and drink presentation techniques. · Practical instruction in preparing teas, cold drinks, açaí bowls and other menu items. · Training in café opening and closing routines. · Learning stock replenishment and display presentation standards. · Guidance on maintaining a clean, organised and efficient café environment. · Hands-on experience in food service, table clearing and customer area presentation.
