The Opportunity
Working closely with the Technical Manager, the Deputy Technical Manager will help deliver a broad programme across our venues, studio, outdoor spaces & producing projects. We are looking for a practical, positive & collaborative theatre technician who enjoys solving problems, supporting artists and colleagues, and helping a busy venue operate safely and professionally. This is a hands-on role with room to contribute ideas, develop skills and play an important part in the future of Hawk’s Well Theatre.
Key Responsibilities
• Work with the Technical Manager to deliver the safe, professional and welcoming technical operation of events at Hawk’s Well Theatre, the Art Deco Theatre and Temple Street Studio.
• Support visiting companies, performers, producers and creative teams from advance planning through to get-in, rehearsal, performance and get-out.
• Contribute to Hawk’s Well’s own productions and co-productions, helping to realise the creative and technical ambitions of each project.
• Provide technical support for engagement, peacebuilding and community programmes, including work delivered in non-traditional and outdoor settings.
• Operate and maintain lighting, sound, stage and related technical systems, with particular responsibility in areas that match your experience and strengths.
• Assist with fit-ups, technical rehearsals, performances, turnarounds and venue changeovers to a consistently high standard.
• Advise incoming productions on venue specifications, technical possibilities, staffing requirements and practical solutions.
• Help schedule, brief, support and supervise casual and part-time technical staff and local crew.
• Contribute to a positive learning culture by sharing knowledge, mentoring less experienced staff and supporting good working practices.

Who We Are Looking For
• At least a year’s professional experience in technical theatre, live performance, events or a comparable arts venue.
• A strong practical background in at least one technical discipline, such as lighting, sound, stagecraft or production technology, together with a willingness to work across other areas.
• A collaborative and approachable manner, with the confidence to communicate clearly. The ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
• Good organisational skills, attention to detail and a solutions-focused approach. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends in line with the theatre programme.
• A full, clean driving licence.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and relevant industry-standard software
